SOGo is a web interface that lets you work with your business email from any browser, with nothing to install. This guide covers SOGo's main sections and the settings employees ask about most: shared calendars, filters, forwarding, and auto-replies.
Signing in
Open https://mail.mcmail.uz in your browser and sign in with:
- Username — your full email address, such as
name@example.uz; - Password — your mailbox password.
You can choose the interface language on the sign-in page. If two-factor authentication is turned on for your mailbox, you'll be asked for the second factor after your password.
On a shared or public computer, don't let the browser save your password, and always log off when you're done. After several wrong passwords, sign-in is temporarily blocked — this protects against password guessing.
Working with mail
SOGo has three modules: Mail, Calendar, and Address Book. Switch between them using the menu on the left or the icons at the top of the screen.
In Mail, your folders are listed on the left: Inbox, Sent, Drafts, Trash, Junk, and any folders you've created. You can:
- write formatted messages with attachments and save drafts;
- create folders and drag messages into them;
- search by sender, subject, or message text;
- flag messages and mark a whole group as read at once;
- view a message's source with full headers — handy when troubleshooting delivery problems or checking a suspicious email.
SOGo shows the same folders and messages your IMAP mail apps see. Move a message in webmail, and it'll be in the same folder on your phone.
Your signature and display name are set in Preferences (the gear icon) > Mail. That's also where you choose whether to compose in HTML or plain text and how to quote the original message in replies.
Calendar: meetings and sharing
In Calendar you can create events and tasks, invite colleagues, and see when they're free.
- Click a time slot in the grid or use the button to create a new event.
- Add a title, time, location, and a repeat rule if needed.
- Add attendees by email address. If their calendars are on the same server, SOGo shows whether they're available.
- Save. Attendees get an email invitation they can accept or decline.
Sharing a calendar
To let colleagues see one of your calendars (for example, a meeting room or team calendar):
- In the calendar list, open the menu for that calendar (the three-dot icon) and choose Sharing.
- Add a user by email address.
- Set their access: see free/busy only, view event details, or edit events.
The colleague then subscribes to it: in their own calendar list, they choose Subscribe to a Calendar and search for you by name or address.
You can create several calendars (personal, work, time off), color-code them, and hide the ones you don't need. Events can be imported and exported as ICS files.
Address Book
The Address Book module stores your personal contacts. You can create contacts and mailing lists (groups of addresses), import contacts from a vCard (.vcf) file — exported from your old email service, for example — and export them again. Like calendars, address books can be shared with colleagues through the Sharing menu.
To sync calendars and contacts with a phone or computer, you'll find the exact CalDAV and CardDAV addresses in the calendar or address book properties in SOGo (look for the links to the calendar). Our guides for iPhone and Mac and Android explain how to use them.
Filters, forwarding, and auto-reply
You'll find these settings under Preferences (the gear icon) > Mail. Tab names may vary slightly between versions.
Filters
Filters run on the server, so they work even when webmail and your mail apps are closed. Here's an example rule:
- Create a new filter and give it a clear name, such as "Supplier invoices."
- Condition: the From field contains
@supplier.uz. - Action: move the message to the "Accounting" folder.
- Save, then check the filter order — filters run from top to bottom.
Forwarding
Turn on forwarding and enter the address that should receive copies. You can usually choose whether to keep a copy in the current mailbox. Don't forward work email to personal free accounts without approval from management — it's a data leak risk.
Auto-reply
Turn on an auto-reply (an "I'm on vacation" message) on the vacation/auto-reply tab. Enter the message text, the addresses it applies to, and optionally start and end dates. To avoid flooding conversations, the auto-reply goes to each sender no more than once per set interval.
For more on rules, shared addresses like info@, and Sieve syntax, see aliases, forwarding, auto-replies, and filters.
Practical tips
- Spam. If a legitimate message lands in Junk, move it to your Inbox. Check this folder regularly, especially when you're expecting something important.
- Quota. Every mailbox has a storage limit. When it's full, new mail won't be accepted, so delete large attachments you don't need and empty the Trash.
- Backups. The server is backed up as a whole, but restoring individual deleted messages isn't guaranteed. Instead of deleting important mail, move it to an archive folder.
- All-day use. You can keep SOGo open in a browser tab all day. The message list refreshes automatically, so there's no need to reload the page.
