How to Set Up Business Email on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

This guide walks you through setting up your work email in Apple's built-in apps — Mail, Calendar, and Contacts — on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. You'll learn when to choose Exchange ActiveSync versus IMAP and what to do if the connection fails.

Exchange ActiveSync or IMAP?

Apple devices can connect to your mailbox in two main ways. The right choice depends on what you need to sync.

MethodWhat syncsBest for
Exchange ActiveSyncMail, calendar, and contacts in one accountiPhone and iPad, when you want work calendar and contacts without extra setup
IMAP + SMTPMail onlyMac, and any device where you only need email
CalDAV / CardDAVCalendars and contactsAdding calendar and address book alongside IMAP

On iPhone and iPad, Exchange ActiveSync is usually the easiest option: one account gives you mail, calendar, and contacts at once. On a Mac, the common setup is IMAP for mail plus CalDAV/CardDAV for calendar and contacts. For background on the protocols, see IMAP, POP3, and SMTP.

What you'll need

  • Your full email address, such as name@example.uz. This is also your username.
  • Your mailbox password.
  • The server settings below.
SettingValue
Exchange ActiveSync servermail.mcmail.uz
Incoming mail server (IMAP)mail.mcmail.uz, port 993, SSL/TLS
Outgoing mail server (SMTP)mail.mcmail.uz, port 465, SSL/TLS (or 587 with STARTTLS)
UsernameYour full email address

If your administrator has turned on two-factor authentication, check with support how to connect a mail app — your regular password may not work.

iPhone and iPad: Exchange ActiveSync

Where to find mail settings depends on your iOS version. On iOS 17 and earlier, go to Settings > Mail > Accounts. On iOS 18 and later, go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts. If you can't find it, type "Accounts" into the Settings search bar.

  1. Tap Add Account and choose Microsoft Exchange.
  2. Enter your full email address and a description (for example, "Work"), then tap Next.
  3. When asked to sign in with Microsoft, choose Configure Manually.
  4. Enter your password. If the server isn't found automatically, more fields will appear.
  5. In Server, enter mail.mcmail.uz. Leave Domain blank. In Username, enter your full email address.
  6. Tap Next and choose what to sync: Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes. Tap Save.

Within a minute or two your folders will show up in Mail, and your work data in Calendar and Contacts. In the account settings you can choose how many days of mail to sync — one month is plenty if you want to save space.

iPhone and iPad: IMAP

If you only need email, add the mailbox as an IMAP account.

  1. In the accounts section (see the path above), tap Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account.
  2. Enter the name recipients will see, your email address, password, and a description.
  3. Select IMAP.
  4. Under Incoming Mail Server: Host Name mail.mcmail.uz, username is your full address, plus your password.
  5. Under Outgoing Mail Server: Host Name mail.mcmail.uz, with the same username and password. iOS marks these SMTP fields as optional, but you must fill them in — the server won't accept mail without authentication.
  6. Tap Next and wait for verification.

iOS normally picks secure ports on its own. If verification fails, open the account, tap Account > Advanced, and make sure Use SSL is on and the IMAP port is 993. For SMTP, open Outgoing Mail Server, tap the primary server, and set port 465 with SSL.

Mac: the Mail app

On macOS Ventura and later, add accounts in System Settings > Internet Accounts > Add Account. On earlier versions, the Internet Accounts pane is in the older System Preferences. You can also start from Mail itself: Mail menu > Add Account.

  1. Choose Other Mail Account (sometimes Add Other Account > Mail account).
  2. Enter your name, address, and password, then click Sign In.
  3. If macOS can't detect the settings, enter them manually: account type IMAP, incoming mail server mail.mcmail.uz, outgoing mail server mail.mcmail.uz, username is your full address.
  4. Select which apps should use this account: Mail (and Notes, if you like).

To check ports and encryption, go to Mail > Settings > Accounts > Server Settings. Clear "Automatically manage connection settings" if you need to set ports by hand: IMAP 993 with TLS/SSL, SMTP 465 with TLS/SSL.

The Mac Mail app doesn't use Exchange ActiveSync — for Exchange accounts, macOS expects the EWS protocol instead. So on a Mac, choose IMAP.

Calendar and contacts via CalDAV and CardDAV

If you set up mail with IMAP, add your calendar and contacts separately. On iPhone and iPad: accounts section > Add Account > Other > Add CalDAV Account (for calendars) or Add CardDAV Account (for contacts). On a Mac: Internet Accounts > Add Other Account > CalDAV account or CardDAV account, with account type set to Manual or Advanced.

You'll need your username (full address), password, and server address. The exact CalDAV and CardDAV address for your mailbox is shown in the calendar and address book settings in SOGo webmail, or you can ask support. Don't guess the address: if it's wrong, the device may silently fail to sync.

Common problems and fixes

  • "Cannot verify user name or password." Make sure the username is your full address, not just the part before @. Try signing in to webmail at https://mail.mcmail.uz with the same password.
  • Mail arrives but won't send. On iOS, the SMTP username and password are missing, or the port is wrong. Check the outgoing server settings.
  • Sign-in stopped working after several failed attempts. The server temporarily blocks addresses that look like password guessing. Wait a bit and type your password carefully. If that doesn't help, contact support.
  • Calendar is empty with Exchange. Make sure the Calendars toggle is on in the account settings.
  • Certificate warning. Don't accept an untrusted certificate. Double-check that the server name matches the table exactly, then contact support.
